In 2014 343i/Halo Studios released Halo: The Master Chief Collection in a completely broken state.
If those most actively on the web (and seemingly least active in game) are to be believed the MCC has been fixed and now actually works. That is not the case as there are many outstanding issues.
Notice how in pretty much all the H1 clips the “remastered” “anniversary” sound effects are playing despite this not being h1 anniversary. The pistol, grenades, and sniper stand out a lot and really take me out of the game.
Unfortunately I was stupid enough to not consider the possibility that 343i/Halo Studios would be incapable of making a functioning game, so I got a Xbox One specifically to play Halo: The Master Chief Collection without investigating if the game even functions. That evening I got it all set up and went to play my first round of matchmaking. This is what happened.
If I remember correctly the loading screen and voting system (remember that?!) showed that we would be playing Halo 1 Hang 'Em High Team Slayer. This is composed of 3 clips I recorded from that game
Notice how in the pause menu, it thinks we are on Hang 'Em High and that this is “Team Slayer”. Also notice the Halo PC hitmarker sounds that play when you do damage.
The user interface was completely broken. As you can see in this first clip.
And here is a clip someone I used to know recorded when he was having trouble with the party system. I remember we were both trying to join up but something wasn't working.
Apparently Halo Studios/343i doesn't have access to any competent programmers. This is to be expected considering that they rely on a revolving door of contractors. If you follow Halo Studios closely you may remember the now deleted blog where they announced that they were updating MCC and licensing Unreal to remake the menus. No wonder they are licensing Unreal to make their next game, since menus are beyond their programmer's (that they probably find on Fiverr) capabilities.
For several years in the MCC falling through the map was common. On the very next day after my first game this happened.
And here is another example.
And yet another example.
This is composed from 2 clips from the same match. Notice the broken audio that is out of sync with the game and that I can't shoot after being hijacked. I was able to fix this by getting into a vehicle and back out again.
This video is made up of several clips (some of which overlap so I edited them together) from the same match.
Yes this still happens! Usually I'm the only player effected. And sometimes even more bizare things happen like instead of not respawning, you respawn as the only player on the map, with apparently the match still going on, I just can't see it. I can walk around and sometimes explosions go off and you hear something and then I suddenly die.
Unfortunatly I don't have that many clips, but I have this pretty good one
Even if you got into a match the teams would be unballanced, and this is how it would feel after waiting a long time for matchmaking to find you a match.
This video consists of 2 clips stuck together so there is a jump cut.
I don't remember this well but it's fucking bizzare. I'm “W64” in the warthog and 2 of our teammates are stuck in a fucked up glitched warthog. I may be mis-remembering but on my client the warthog was fine and just sitting there but on this guy's client it was totally fucked. Luckily the grenade that he threw fixed the problem.
